In researching many have said about the high amount of low quality valve bones are around, yet in some cases, bones like the King 2b valve trombone or the mid-60s Conn valve bone (Brookmyer’s favourite according to some guy on a forum) are regarded as beautiful sounding instruments for jazz playing and other contemporary situations. Recently I have fell in love with the Bob Brookmyer sound and wondered the reasons not more trombonists (specifically) have given the valve trombone a shot. Hi, I am a trombone and trumpet student finishing high school and moving towards university and professional playing (most likely jazz focussed) and was wondering about the valve trombone as an instrument that with my dexterity on slide and valves (and a little euph on the side) would serve as a mid ground and useful option that combines both my main instruments.
